Our IGCSE English Writing course is designed to help students excel in all key writing formats required for exam success. Through structured lessons, we cover commentary essay writing, teaching students to analyze texts critically and craft well-supported arguments. You’ll learn to identify key themes, literary devices, and structural techniques to write insightful, high-scoring commentaries.
The course also focuses on transactional writing, equipping students with the skills to write persuasive letters, reports, speeches, and articles in a clear, audience-appropriate style. We break down mark schemes and teach precise techniques to meet examiners’ expectations. Additionally, our descriptive/imaginary writing module helps students develop vivid, engaging narratives with rich vocabulary and creative flair.

We begin with a discounted trial lesson to evaluate your child’s current strengths and learning needs. This session helps us understand their academic level and learning style.
Based on the assessment, we design a tailored learning plan aligned with the student’s goals, school curriculum, and timeline. This session is customized to maximize progress and build long-term confidence.

Our IGCSE English Writing Core course equips students with essential skills to master all key writing formats, from analytical commentaries to creative narratives. Through structured lessons, you’ll learn to craft compelling arguments, adapt your style for different audiences, and bring descriptions to life with vivid language.
We focus on three core areas: commentary writing (developing critical analysis of texts), transactional writing (mastering formal letters, reports and speeches), and descriptive/imaginary writing (building creative expression and stylistic flair). Alice is a dynamic and inspiring educator who tailors her teaching to ignite creativity
and confidence in every student. She fosters independent thinking and self
expression by guiding students through interactive drama exercises, thought
provoking discussions, and collaborative projects, encouraging them to discover their
unique voices before offering her expert insights.
Alice is a distinguished professional with a Licentiate Teaching Diploma in Speech &
Drama from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and a Certificate in Education from
the University of Brighton. Her extensive training also includes certifications in PSHE
coordination, executive coaching, and Meta-certified community management.
Jay adapts to his students' needs, and his teaching style is calm, engaging, and
interactive. He uses realworld analogies and examples to help reinforce concepts and
ideas which are new to his students, and he helps students find their own answers. Jay
graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from the City University of New York
with Magna Cum Laude honors.
Upon relocating to Hong Kong, he provided tutoring services to students from DGS, St
Clare's Girls' School, and Ying Wa Girls' School to prepare them for the DSE English
examination during the initial years of its introduction.
Vivian prioritizes creating an engaging and passionate classroom that fosters
communication and self-exploration.
Vivian earned a B.A, in Literature and Music from Bard College in the US. She later
obtained an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Chicago. Currently, she is
pursuing a master's degree in journalism at the University of Hong Kong.
Vivian has taught in a variety of settings, including US Liberal Arts Colleges and an
education institute in Beijing. She is highly dedicated to integrating the LAMDA
syllabus within her drama lessons. Her TESOL certification from the US and her
training in Composition Theory at Bard College further demonstrates her commitment
to educational excellence.
